School House Terra Cotta Craft Pot

Materials:

  • 4" clay pot
  • Clear Gloss finish spray paint
  • Terra Cotta Sealer
  • 3/8" checkered stencil
  • Stencil adhesive
  • 1" paint brush
  • " round stencil brush
  • White permanent marking pen
  • 2" x 3" wooden rectangle for chalk board
  • 3/16" thick wooden school house
  • 3/16" thick wooden school bus
  • Popsicle craft stick
  • 4" herb or flower plant

Paints:

  • Maroon
  • Black
  • White
  • Sable Brown
  • Golden Brown

Instructions:

1. Prepare pot by sealing with Terra Cotta Sealer, found in home improvement supply store.

2. Pot - paint pot inside and out with maroon paint. Cover well with paint and let dry. Next, float top and bottom (outside) edges of pot lip with a mixture of maroon and black paint, just so there is slight coloring on the edges of the pot. When this has dried, spray back of stencil with stencil adhesive and stick to edge of pot. Stencil squares using white paint. Speckle entire terra cotta flower pot with black paint on dry brush.

Stick - paint both sides of stick black, leaving one inch on one end unpainted (so glue will stick well).

Chalk board - paint both sides black. When dry float a large curved across top and bottom and both sides with sable brown to make a frame. To make wood grain, line with golden brown. Give extra shading at each corner. Use white pen to write on chalk board.

3. Glue wood parts to chalk board. Spray with sealer.

4. Plant new plant in pot. Insert chalk board on stick and your terra cotta flower pot craft is ready to give away.
